Percussionist David Pleasant presents a Music and Motion Cultural Event: Signs for Life! A Smithsonian Signature program
Come out for an evening of Ring Shouting, Syncopation and Polyrhythmic intrigue with performing artists David Pleasant and Miles Griffith.
The program centers upon the fine art and signage of William M. Pleasant, Jr. whose work, The Huckster, is featured in the NMAAHC Cultural Expressions exhibit. The painting embodies the power and resilience of the Gullah-Geechee legacy. Signs for Life originally opened in San Diego in association with PLEASANT Institute and CAT Sparks Art, Inc. As a multi-faceted music, art-making and food exhibition, it stimulated dialogue about many of the unknowns in American culture and history--- Saim wai so--The program at Afro-Roots encourages full participation in the songs, hand play, steppin’ and Riddimic oasis of early African American music and culture.
